education and experience.About the Job: The School Counseling
Specialist work is relevant and incorporates many of the objectives
prescribedunder the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) vision
and mission. This position serves as a liaisonbetween the
Department and other agencies, organizations, and constituencies on
academic, career,social/emotional/behavioral health initiatives for
Indiana students. This position acts as an advocate andan indirect
source of positive change for students by providing support to
eliminate barriers to studentlearning, in effort to positively
impact student success.A Day in the Life: Provide customer
service/technical assistance to school counselors and other student
servicesprofessionals, in addition to district and building level
administrators, parents, students, communityagencies, school
counselor educators from Indiana colleges and universities, and
leaders fromprofessional associations.? Provide professional
development to school counselors and other student service
professionals andeducators to enable constituents to stay current
in their practice through over 20 targeted, educatorprofessional
development workshops, including fall School Counselor regional
workshops; ISCA,INACAC, ACT, and IYI annual conferences; annual
workshops including the Muncie Career Center,Indiana State
Counselor Day, and Indiana University Kokomo Counselor Day;
presentations forIndiana School Counselor graduate programs; and
other presentations as requested.? Update and provide a list of
annual professional development opportunities for counselors.?
Oversee the School Counselor videos in Moodle and provide
certificates of completion for Moodlecourses.? Provide consultation
with Indiana school counselors as necessary on all matters related
to schoolcounseling, including requirements of school counseling in
accordance with the Student ServicesRule 511 IAC 4-1.5-1; student
academic, college and career, and social/emotional development;
highschool and graduation course and credit requirements; legal and
ethical guidelines; licensure;graduate programs, etc.? Oversee the
allocation of funds, annual data report, and the selection
committee for the SchoolIntervention and Career Counseling
Development Program in accordance with IC 20-20-17, whichpartially
funds elementary school counselor positions.? Coordinate
collaboration between professionals in the School Counseling field
(K-12 schoolcounselors, professional associations, and
postsecondary counselor educators.? Collaborate with state agencies
and organizations by serving on advisory councils, task forces,
andcommittees, including the Indiana Association for College
Admission Counseling (INACAC) andIndiana School Counselor
Association (ISCA) board; Indiana College and Career Collaborative;
21stCentury Scholars Advisory Board; ISCA-CHE Advisory Committee;
SWIC Career CounselingWhat You'll Need for Success: Master's Degree
in School CounselingFive years of experience as a school
counselor.Thorough knowledge and understanding of the organization
and administration of comprehensiveguidance and counseling programs
at all grade levels.Knowledge of federal, state, and IDOE rules and
regulations pertinent to education.Knowledge of how school
counselors coordinate with Career and Technical, Vocational and
Adult Education, Tech Prep, College and Career Pathways, and other
related programs.Ability to establish and maintain effective
professional working relationships with IDOE staff; school district
personnel; higher education institutions; state organizations,
associations, and agencies tofurther enhance educational
opportunities for all students.Ability to develop and experience
coordination of professional development activities including
conferences, workshops, and on-line delivery.Excellent written and
verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills and strong
decision making ability and attention to detail.Exceptional
organizational and office management skills, including project
management.Ability to make independent decisions within the scope
of the IDOE vision and to perform without the need for direct
supervision.Broad understanding of the functions of the IDOE and
