Job Description:
Who We Are Indianapolis Teaching Fellows prepares individuals
without teaching certification to become exceptional teachers and
promote greater educational equity. Indianapolis Teaching Fellows
play a critical role in breaking down the socioeconomic and racial
barriers that have denied our students access to an equitable
education. Through Indianapolis Teaching Fellows (ITF), you will
elevate your academic and professional expertise into a high-impact
career as a certified K-12 teacher working in Indianapolis Public
Schools and Township Charter area schools. Who Our Students Need
Indianapolis Teaching Fellows provides a diverse and passionate
group of mission-driven aspiring teachers with an affordable and
accelerated pathway to the classroom. We recruit, train, certify,
and support accomplished professionals, recent college graduates,
and graduating seniors who aren't yet certified as teachers, but
possess the dedication and content knowledge to teach in schools
throughout Indianapolis. You may have built a successful career and
now desire to pursue a more fulfilling path as a teacher. You may
be a recent graduate who wants to share your passion for learning
with Indiana's students. Whatever your background may be, you
believe that every student can achieve at the highest level, and
you are committed to helping them get there. We are currently
seeking candidates to teach critical-need subjects including
Science, Math, English, English as a Second Language, and Special
Education. Benefits of Teaching in Indianapolis Flexible Teaching
Locations: As an employee of Indianapolis Public Schools or
Township Charter Schools in Center Township, Fellows have the
unique flexibility to start their career at a school that fits
their skills and interests. Wherever you teach, you will be working
in a state that is recognized for being on the cutting edge of
innovative education. Classroom-Centered Preparation: Fellows
prepare to enter the classroom by participating in a five-week
training experience. Where traditional teacher preparation leaves
little time for hands-on skill-building, our innovative training is
centered around actual teaching experience in summer school
classrooms. Fellows practice core skills that they need to be
successful on their first day of teaching and ground their pedagogy
in culturally responsive teaching. Full Salary and Benefits: While
pursuing certification and your Master of Arts in Teaching through
our partner university, Marian University, Fellows work full-time
at a district or charter school and will earn the same starting
salary plus comprehensive benefits as a first-year teacher. You
will start as the teacher of record for the 2023-24 school year.
Starting salary is approximately $50,400 plus comprehensive
benefits. Certification: During your first two years as a full-time
teacher, you will also complete certification coursework through
our partnership with Marian University, where you will earn your
certification and a Master of Arts in Teaching. You are responsible
for Marian University's tuition and fees, which total approximately
$12,690 for the two-year program. You will be eligible for TNTP's
AmeriCorps program to receive two consecutive education awards of
$6,495 and totaling $12,700 that can fully offset the cost of
tuition. Fellows are also eligible to apply for Financial Aid.
