Job Description AE Defence Design Engineer - Compressors Indianapolis, IN Please note, there is a condition of employment regarding the Covid-19 vaccine. The AE Defence Design Engineer - Compressors is responsible for the Mechanical Design of components for Gas Turbine Engines, principally Compressor Blades, Vanes, Actuation System and supporting hardware. The Design Engineer is also responsible for the creation of Compressor design definitions that meet the given sub-system requirements and product attributes. The Design Engineer shall create solutions that are robust against variation, taking into account the appropriate form, fit, and function. The Design Engineer shall exhibit strong technical knowledge in mechanical design methodologies and have an understanding of cross-discipline engineering concepts which include but are not limited to manufacturing engineering, compressor aerodynamics, thermodynamics, cost engineering and product definition. This role will be applying the latest design methods, tools and techniques to support the design needs of the AE Program.   • Design Engineer will operate as part of a broader AE Design team that will stretch the designer to apply their skills to components beyond the immediate needs of the compressor, including but not limited to compressor casings and externals.
  • Support of supply chain efforts to procure hardware from multiple suppliers including concession consultation and execution of DARs while Working with manufacturing to procure conforming hardware
  • Provide engineering support of development and/or service related hardware issues including Engine Investigations and Technical Variance consultation
  • Deliver Design Solutions to the AE Program within the IA/DTA Process (which includes preparation of technical presentations and reports supporting design efforts, Creation of hardware design concepts, Performance trade studies to optimize hardware, Presentation of solutions to management)
  • Create detailed drawings and complete dimensional tolerance stacks and GD&T calculations
  • Orchestrate Technical Review/Design Review and communicate solutions to the project/customer Rolls-Royce is a Military Friendly Employer. Basic Requirements:
    • Bachelors' Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and 1+ year experience in gas turbine or similar high-tech industry
    • Masters' Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and experience in gas turbine or similar high-tech industry
    • Good command of the English language for both written and oral communication
    • Good interpersonal skills including conflict resolution and working effectively in a team environment
    • General PC knowledge and associated MS Office software experience (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Previous Design Engineering experience and a demonstrated ability to successfully deliver independently and as a team

      • Experience with Compressor Component design methods and practices (Lifing Spreadsheets, Containment, Aero Design, Thermals)
      • Familiarity with the design processes typically encountered by an AE Design Engineer (DTA/IA, DRWA, DAP, TV, DAR, MRB)
      • Familiarity with the design tools and databases typically used by an AE Design Engineer (NX, Teamcenter, ANSYS Workbench)
      • A good grasp of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and experience with the Definition Release process
      • Experience with computer programming and design optimization
      • Experience working with manufacturing/quality, especially with regards to the assessment of non-conforming hardware Create the new standard.
