American Art Clay Company (AMACO) was founded in 1919 by Ted O. Philpott. We are looking for an Engineering Manager who is a hands-on manager interested in working alongside the team. This manager will develop the Engineers' staff and drive Continuous Improvement across the facility, all while ensuring project timelines and KPIs are maintained/improved.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Engineering Manager oversees a team of engineers and technical staff. Responsibilities include communicating job expectations, delegating tasks, determining priorities in work assignments, evaluating staffing needs, monitoring work quality, leading performance reviews, providing guidance/coaching to team members, making hiring recommendations, and driving and enforcing a safe and healthy work environment by applicable legislation and company policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
Managerial
--- Responsible for developing the engineering team's future outlook and strategy and ensuring it aligns with the greater business objectives
--- Drive training and development of all technical staff
--- Responsible for driving toward ISO/ TS compliance within manufacturing.
--- Drive and enforce a safe and healthy work environment by applicable legislation and company policies and procedures.
--- Assign tasks to engineers
--- Liaise with vendors for plant projects and equipment purchases for projects
--- Manage routers and bill of material for new product set-up and maintain current system data for engineering changes.
--- Communicate effectively with customers/suppliers
--- Collaborate with the sales team to support new products
--- Attend trade shows and conferences
--- Responsible for working with all Environmental agencies to ensure compliance.
Continuous Improvement
--- Drive continuous improvements (LEAN and Six Sigma) of processes, quality, and cost to maintain profitability and competitiveness
--- Develop and implement policies, standards, and procedures for the engineering department
--- Drives and implements system standardization of processes across the facility
--- Drives and implements documentation of all processes across the facility.
--- Direct, review, and approve all customer, concurrent and new product designs or changes
--- Define, manage, measure, and report relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
--- Responsible for production rates (set up and run) for each process routing operation
--- Responsible for driving permanent corrective actions and poke yokes to prevent the reoccurrence of any outstanding issues related to quality, production, equipment, tooling, customers, and production controls.
--- Assuring product and process quality by designing, proofing, and validating manufacturing methods, including assembly, process, inspection, and test; establishing standard work procedures, process capability, and process control.
--- Approve all tool process sheets, any changes to the part, manufacturing process cost, material/ process standards, and packaging
--- Cross-functionally analyzes and solves engineering-related problems with other department managers and department personnel
--- Evaluate and approve all equipment required for programs
Project Management
--- Researching and developing redesigns and cost reductions for commercialized products.
--- Analyze technology, resources, and market demand, to plan and assess the feasibility of projects
--- Monitors progress against project schedules and budgets; recommends allocation of resources as required to accomplish goals
--- Plans and formulates engineering program and organizes project staff according to project requirements
--- Planning and executing strategies for completing projects on time.
--- Coordinates all customer and internal engineering changes to meet expected deadlines
Required Skills/Abilities:
--- Extensive knowledge of engineering practices and principles as well as an understanding of scientific methods of problem-solving
--- Ability to collaborate with many other teams
--- Interpersonal skills to manage a team of engineers
--- Knowledge related to legal regulations and contractual relationships which can affect performance and applications in the workplace
--- Demonstrated ability with cost analysis, product design methods, interpersonal skills, and the ability to integrate all of these skills into a productive cost-effective result
--- Must be competent with CAD/CAM systems, QFD, DFM, FMEA, and DOE
--- Must be proficient in Microsoft products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Project)
--- Excellent program and project management skills with solid documentation management
--- Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to analyze, troubleshoot, process change, and improve design and equipment
--- Strong presentation, written and verbal skills including ability to communicate ideas and recommendations to non-engineer team members in a straightforward manner
--- Able to work effectively with internal and external customers and suppliers
--- Goal Setting - able to define realistic, specific goals and objectives. Able to prioritize objectives effectively. Goals must be measurable, and time-bound.
--- Decision Making & Problem Solving - able to take action in solving problems while exhibiting judgment and a realistic understanding of issues; able to use reason, even when dealing with emotional topics.
--- Leadership - able to influence the actions and opinions of others in the desired direction, and exhibit judgment in leading others to worthwhile objectives.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50+ pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Hours of work are Monday through Friday, 40+ hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel:
No travel is expected for this position.
Education and Experience:
--- Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent required.
--- Lean Manufacturing experience required.
--- At least seven years of engineering experience
--- 3+ years' experience managing an engineering team
--- Six Sigma experience preferred
--- MBA or master's preferred
