Job Summary:

The Unit Process Engineer position is responsible for monitoring production data and providing technical support to ensure that the production process is technically capable of achieving established standard rates and yields. This includes testing and monitoring equipment, updating/improving current system process, conducting risk assessments and serving as the technical expert in the production unit. This position reports to the Technical Manager at the Indianapolis plant.

Responsibilities:

Role Specific Responsibilities:

  • Monitors process performance and, as appropriate, facilitates a timely resolution of identified problems
  • Develops and presents plans that optimize production standards, as well as monitors and reports on the progress of projects
  • Performs design control tasks related to user requirements, design verification and validation, functional specifications and process validation to ensure quality and efficiency
  • Seeks out incremental improvement opportunities and, as appropriate, implements identified opportunities in the production unit
  • Tracks and analyzes metrics to determine ROI of implemented improvements/upgrades
  • Maintains the production unit's Management of Change (MOC) program by ensuring that the program meets process safety requirements, that procedures have been established and that procedures have been properly documented and implemented
  • Evaluates processes and equipment to ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations as well as operating procedures
  • Functions as a technical expert and provides support on unit processes
    • Utilizes this expertise to provide coaching to the production unit team and contributes analysis and resolution of operating problems to the unit
    • Provides Process Safety Management (PSM) support including Process Hazard Analysis participation
    • Coordinates/liaises with unit Supervisors and provides back up support for the unit Manager
    • Collaborates with and participates on teams of multiple disciplines/functions to establish, review and improve overall process design and manufacturing practices
    • Performs other duties as assigned/required Compliance:
      • Complies with company Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures and arrangements
      • Reports all Health, Safety and Environmental accidents, incidents and near misses promptly

        • Takes responsibility and ownership for own learning and development in the spirit of continuous improvement of both self and the business
        • Assists in the training, mentoring and assessment of other team members
        • Exercises autonomy and judgement subject to overall direction or guidance Qualifications/Desired Skills:

          Education:
          • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering required Experience:
            • Three (3) or more years of process/production experience required
            • Understanding of Process Safety Management regulations and tools (PHA, LOPA, MOC, Root Cause, etc.) preferred
            • Knowledge of additional software tools including Aspen (or equivalent), AFT, Minitab, MS Project, etc. as well as SAP experience preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
              • Self-motivated and ability to work within a fast paced environment
              • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to flex own style as needed to influence and drive results
              • Demonstrated high technical aptitude as well as analytical and spatial reasoning skills
              • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to adapt quickly to changing business needs and priorities
              • Proven ingenuity for utilizing broad Engineering concepts to address complex problems
              • Ability to work in a team environment within a multi-functional, organizational structure and exhibit robust interpersonal skills
              • Strong sense of commercial awareness and the ability to apply/relate to overall business goals and objectives
              • Excellent proficiency within Microsoft products (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
              • Critical thinking and conflict resolution skills and analytical abilities which allow assessment of customer service issues, situations and opportunities
