www.veolianorthamerica.com Job Description Position Purpose: The
Mechanical Maintenance Technician is responsible for the repair,
maintenance and reliability of the plant's rotating and mechanical
equipment, processes and hardware. During the start-up and
commissioning phase of each plant the Mechanical Maintenance
Technicians will apply their experience and practical knowledge to
ensure the plant achieves or exceeds the start-up curve timeline.
Once the plant is up and running at steady state the Mechanical
Maintenance Technicians will create, establish and perform daily
preventative maintenance tasks on the plant's equipment and
facilities. In addition, they will make adjustments and repairs to
production equipment in cooperation with Operations and Engineering
to assist with resolving persistent issues, focusing on plant
reliability and optimizing uptime. Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Work in accordance with all applicable standards and safety codes.
Provide mechanical expertise for repair, maintenance and
reliability activities within the plant according to safety,
quality and trade standards and guidelines. Provide mechanical
maintenance services as assigned, throughout the plant. Resolve
plant mechanical and rotating equipment issues and implement
corrective actions. Provide supervision feedback on information
regarding jobs, including determining time required, material
needs, labour requirements and impact on uptime. Establish and
perform PM requirements for process controls and other related
plant equipment, submit recommendations, and ensure follow up of
corrective actions. Participate in the maintenance manual creation,
editing and review for all of the facility rotating and mechanical
equipment. Collaborate actively with Plant Management and Engineers
in all maintenance tasks and activities. Assist in setting plant
maintenance, reliability and capital objectives. Develop and
implement new initiatives. Assist operational teams in achieving
maintenance, reliability and capital objectives. Identify gaps in
the management system and make recommendations for improvements.
Identify existing or potential risks and implement corrective
measures targeting prevention measures. Promote Best Practice and a
proactive approach. Assist in producing safe systems of work-
written procedures. Conduct and/or participate in RCM
investigations of equipment failures and/or reliability issues and
follow-up of corrective actions; update and draft any associated
documents and procedures. Ensure good communication and cooperation
between both (FSJ and Merritt) plant sites and with corporate
teams. Contribute and in some cases lead the development of
regional initiatives. Collaborate to develop the site reliability
and operations continuity plans. Participate in the shutdown
planning and scheduling activities for both sites. Collaborate with
local teams in identifying work and with the writing of procedures
and task identification for individual site requirements. Work with
the site teams to prepare and review safe work procedures for all
operating and shutdown activities. Perform other trades practices
on work assignments within ability and skill level. Provide
maintenance services on various shifts as assigned. May be asked to
assist and work at the other plant for short assignments. May be
asked to participate on health and safety committees and
initiatives. Ensure good communication with stakeholder
representatives. Ensure the compliance of subcontractors and
participate in their pre-qualification. Perform other related
duties as requested by management. Work Environment: Must be able
to work for prolonged periods in extremes of hot and cold
temperatures and inclement weather conditions. Must be able to
tolerate dust and other airborne particles and work around other
materials such as biomass, diesel and lube oils. Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background: High School Diploma/GED is
required. Experience with laser alignment techniques and alignment
procedures. Experience with vibration analysis software, equipment
and interpreting results. Experience with lubrication analysis
processes, procedures and interpreting analysis results. Experience
with thermography processes and analysis. Previous experience
commissioning greenfield biomass power plants will be an asset.
Experience with boilers and the associated steam systems and
equipment. Experience with steam turbines and generators.
Experience in a power generating plant. Experience working with
biomass. 5 to 10 years practical experience in the industrial or
power generation field. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Excellent
communication and personal skills. Ability to work with little
direct supervision. Teamwork, excellent communicator, autonomous
and organized. Sense of the customer, sense of detail and
priorities. Solid computer skills: proficiency with spreadsheet,
email, and word processing software required; Microsoft Office and
Windows preferred. A working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance
Management Software (OWAM) applications will be an asset.
Maintenance troubleshooting and repair experience with steam
turbines, large pumps, large fans, etc. Capability to read,
interpret and utilize blueprints, drawings and Manufacturer's
Installation, Operation and Maintenance manuals. Must be available
for overtime if required by site and be willing to relocate to Ft
St James, B.C. Required Certification/Licenses/Training: Provincial
or Inter-Provincial Trade Red Seal Certification - Millwright
Journey Person. It is preferred that the tradesperson will be dual
Red Seal certified with either Red Seal qualifications in welding,
pipefitting, carpentry and/or electrician or instrumentation. Basic
welding qualifications/certificates (non-pressure) would be an
important asset. Physical Requirements: Under certain conditions
while working in the plant, may be required to wear a respirator.
Required to wear safety equipment and FR clothing where
appropriate. Requires frequent stooping, bending, climbing,
reaching, carrying and moving heavy objects with assistance when
required. Must be able to work from ladders, scaffolds, and
high-lifts, and in confined spaces. Additional Information
