The Sr. Controls Engineer develops technical & design specifications, tests and oversees the implementation of new equipment to ensure the business unit's requirement are met and meets the company's standards. The engineer will support the Product Development Test Department personnel in the troubleshooting of functional problems and guide maintenance activities to eliminate functionality issues of equipment/systems . The engineer will design and guide installation activities to retrofit and improve functionality of existing equipment/systems. The ideal professional will have experience in commissioning new controls systems and enhancements of current controls systems for improved functionality. Responsibilities Include:

  • Review and update control system specifications to ensure that new equipment meets business requirements (utilizes standard components, maintainable, cost effective, flexible, easy to use, supports integration with controls and business systems infrastructure).
  • Review machine quotes, prints, approval drawings, and control logic to ensure adherence to specifications and process requirements
  • Participate in equipment run-offs to insure proper control system function.
  • Develop, procure, implement and support a control systems infrastructure that will support the Test Facilities.
  • Provide technical support for test and development equipment.
  • Support the training of skilled trades resources responsible for supporting controls systems.
  • Support the training of end users of control systems.
  • Support continuous improvement activities.
  • Investigate control systems trends and suggest modifications that provide business benefit.
  • Provides a physical presence in the workplace.
  • Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Required:
    • Bachelors degree
    • Minimum 7 years' experience required.
    • Experience with the development, implementation and support of industrial control systems that perform control, monitoring, data acquisition, logging and alarming functions.
    • Project Management skills and experience involving complex projects.
    • Experience monitoring and controlling capital budgets relative to Controls-related projects.
    • Ability to diagnose/troubleshoot any Controls system when required regardless of having prior knowledge or experience.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred:
      • Experience in Functional Transmission Test Stand Control Systems.
      • Experience with Horner and Siemens Control Systems and PC control.
      • Knowledge of best practices in automotive or equipment testing
      • Experience with Allen-Bradley PAC/PLC control systems.
      • Experience with device communication networks including Allen-Bradley DH+, DeviceNet, Ethernet IP, etc.
