Athletic, Extracurricular, and Health Director Location(s) US-IN-Indianapolis Category Education Type Full Time Compensation Commensurate with experience POSITION SUMMARY The Athletic & Extracurricular Director will serve as a member of the school leadership team and the instructional team, facilitating curricular and extracurricular learning for high school students in a "best fit" environment for teenagers with significant barriers to education. This position is a hybrid teaching and leadership role that includes a reduced teaching load of Physical Education and Health classes and leadership of the athletic and extracurricular activities for a small school of 270 students. As a member of a small school team managing many different priorities, this person must be extremely organized, strong at time management, and skilled at creating systems and building capacity in coaches, volunteers, and students to ensure athletic and extracurricular programming is compliant and effective.School priorities include:

• High rigor, high support instruction to close academic gaps and prepare students for post-secondary opportunities
• Trauma-informed social emotional learning--
• Student and family empowerment through coordination with a robust Student Services team of coaches, counselors, and more.This role demonstrates behaviors consistent with our Mission, Vision and Values, on behalf of Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana.Responsibilities
  • Leading, assessing, and improving the school's athletic and extracurricular programs in a manner consistent with organizational values and goals.
    • Ensure compliance to IHSAA bylaws, and state, local, and organizational policies on safety, student eligibility, financial and inventory management, and communication.
    • Attend and oversee all home athletic contests and other after school events hosted at the school. Oversee maintenance of the gymnasium.--
    • Create the schedule and budget for the Athletic Department and oversee contracts, spending, and fundraising.--
    • Recruit, hire, oversee, provide feedback, and assess athletic coaching staff and extracurricular partners with support from the school leadership team.
    • Serve as the PE/Health Teacher (reduced teaching load.)
      • Facilitate standards-aligned, research-based instructional plans using a combination of school-provided and teacher-created materials, with an emphasis on disciplinary literacy.
      • Assess and respond to evidence of student learning to differentiate and provide support for learners at a variety of levels.
      • Engage in frequent instructional coaching and professional learning community collaboration to improve student learning.
      • Foster a structured and supportive classroom environment that is consistent with school agreements, trauma-informed, and provides students with frequent feedback to support their social emotional development.--
      • Build relationships with students and their webs of support. Communicate strengths and challenges frequently and use restorative approaches to resolve conflict.--
      • Collaborate with colleagues to refer and connect students to wraparound supports including Family Empowerment Coaching for internal and community resources, Social Emotional Learning, Special Education, and more.--
      • Participate in school cultural initiatives.
      • Serve on the Cabinet Leadership team and as a 12 month employee.
      • Other duties as assigned. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
        • Bachelor's degree required with a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience preferred
        • Current Indiana Teaching Certification or ability to become licensed--
        • Experience with athletic department logistics, preferably as an athletic administrator or coach and preferably in an IHSAA program
        • Proven record as a leader overseeing numerous logistical details with an exemplary level of organization and clear and professional communicating with internal and external stakeholders
        • Proven record of results that illustrates the teacher's ability to increase student achievement utilizing subject-specific instructional strategies
        • Ability to analyze and interpret data and make necessary adjustments to achieve learning goals
        • Ability to create and adapt instructional materials that are rigorous and scaffolded with supports
        • Superior verbal and written communication skills

        • Has working knowledge of computer programs to perform clerical tasks: Google Applications, Excel, and Word
        • Ability to engage a student population that is majority low-income and majority people of color
        • Experience working with high school age students preferred
