Director, Research Business Partnerships Indiana University has formed the Office of Business Partnerships to bring greater consistency to, and achieve greater impact from, the university's relationships with industry partners. The goal is for a more coordinated approach to lead to stronger relationships, more opportunities for students and faculty, and greater financial support for all of IU's research and educational activities. The Office of Business Partnerships will work in close collaboration with schools, the Office of Research Administration, the IU Foundation, the Office of Innovation and Commercialization, IU Ventures (formerly known as IURTC), Career Services, and others. Located within the Office of the Vice President for Research organization to help ensure close alignment with IU's academic mission, the new office will also maintain a dotted line to the Office of the Vice President and CFO to facilitate a close working relationship with IU Purchasing and other units there. Job Summary This position serves as primary interface between a set of assigned business entities and the University providing outreach support including: research partnerships, start-up business opportunities, access to research centers, institutes and programs, facilitation of student hiring and internships, connections to faculty expertise, facilities and equipment, professional training, advisory board opportunities, networking events and other University activities and programs which respond to corporate needs and interests. This position provides leadership and strategic direction to IU administration, deans and development directors in planning and implementing appropriate strategies to establish strong, multifaceted research partnerships with corporations and corporate foundations inclusive of funding research collaborations, sponsorship, philanthropic support, equipment donations, joint commercialization, and the like. Duties and responsibilities:

• Serve as the University's primary point of contact for corporate research inquiries and requests from both external and internal constituents. Manage a portfolio of corporate partners. Schedule and host corporate visits to campus. Prepare grant applications, proposals, status reports and financial statements. Assist in research contract and gift agreement review and processing. Assist in developing marketing initiatives and stewardship programs. Serves as liaison to certain University schools, units, colleges, centers and institutes. Serve as liaison to certain "community" organizations (economic development, business and support organizations).
• Author, develop and manage a comprehensive resource development program in order to expand and continue research support from corporations and corporate foundations. Meet established metrics for corporate and corporate foundation research support; plan and follow through with contacts for assigned prospects; refine cultivation and solicitation plans as needed to assure effectiveness. Recruit, enlist and train volunteers and volunteer leaders to assist in cultivation and solicitation activities as appropriate and necessary. Work within designated budgets in order to achieve the goals established for the department. Prepare reports to support cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans and related activities; maintain related records as required.
• Maintain knowledge of University faculty and research interests, capabilities and activities. Maintain knowledge of technology, research, and recruiting needs of industry.
• Research and analyze national and geographic data to identify prospective partners by gathering and effectively utilizing information from internal and external systems; rating area prospects to identify funding potential; and employing other methodologies, as appropriate. Stay abreast of current industry literature as it applies to these areas; research, identify and demonstrate how new approaches can be successfully incorporated and applied; attend professional development conferences. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree and five --years of experience as a business development professional, with two years of previous management and supervisory experience and-- three years of experience in organizational fundraising/sponsorship development/sales, ideally at an academic institution, or with a portfolio inclusive of corporate relations responsibilities. Combinations of education and related experience may be considered. Possess a valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University. Proven and successful track record of developing, negotiating, and securing funded partnerships with corporations.--Ability to simultaneously manage several large-scale, multi-year projects. Ability to negotiate and close large, highly visible, complex business deals. Ability to effectively communicate and exchange information. Detailed work, confidentiality, problem solving, and multiple concurrent tasks. Ability to adhere to deadlines and manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
