Job Description:

Working manager role responsible for providing direct oversight of the high-volume tax preparation function for the Wealth Management Division by supervising professional staff, managing tax preparation procedures and processes, and reviewing or preparing fiduciary income tax returns and Forms 1099 for trust and agency accounts. The teammate ensures that clients receive the highest quality of service, and that the Division reputation is sustained at a superior level.
Essential Functions:


  • Supervise and manage professional tax staff to ensure Culture of Excellence standards
  • Hire, mentor and coach employees in performance measurement, skill development and personal growth
  • Oversee preparation and review of fiduciary income tax returns and Forms 1099 including but not limited to organizing, scrubbing, preparing, reconciling, and tracking tax preparation progress to ensure timely completion and filing of tax returns and payment of tax liabilities
  • Oversee determination of quarterly tax estimates for all trust accounts administered by the Bank
  • Oversee miscellaneous tax administration needs, such as setting up new account tax information within the systems, applying for EINs, responding to tax notices, and addressing system issues related to tax reporting
  • Oversee preparation and review of federal estate tax returns and gift tax returns for decedents
  • Oversee preparation and review of date of death valuations of securities and cost basis adjustments
  • Oversee preparation and review of individual income tax returns for decedents and other beneficiaries
  • May actively participate in preparation of fiduciary income tax returns, Forms 1099, federal estate tax returns, gift tax returns for decedents, date of death valuations of securities and cost basis adjustments, and individual income tax returns for decedents and/or other beneficiaries
  • Assist with determination of and charging tax preparation fees
  • Research tax issues
  • Serve as a consultative resource regarding tax planning or tax issues impacting accounts

        Required Education, Experience and Skills:

        • Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent education and work experience; CPA is strongly preferred


          • Minimum of five years of experience preparing a high-volume of increasingly more complex individual, corporate and/or fiduciary tax returns, with emphasis placed on fiduciary tax return preparation
          • Proven experience managing processes and people, preferably in a tax-focused or similar environment
          • High level of initiative, and the ability to work with minimal direct supervision
          • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
          • Ability to interpret data and solve problems, including the demonstrated ability to research complex tax matters and capably interpret and apply tax code and regulations
          • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks
          • Computer proficiency, especially with Microsoft Excel and Access; experience using OneSource Trust Tax software or a similar system is a plus
          • Proven verbal and written communication skills, with strong emphasis placed on responsiveness and customer service skills
          • Excellent interpersonal skills, exhibiting a high degree of professionalism
          • Strong team orientation and demonstrated work ethic
