We are building state-of-the art expertise in major oligonucleotide-based modalities and delivery approaches, with an emphasis on innovative approaches with potential for breakthrough efficacy. We are looking for creative and energetic problem solvers to join our multidisciplinary team at the front edge of innovation. Key facets of the role are identification and engineering of novel targeting shuttles (e.g. mAb, proteins, peptides) and their conjugations to nucleic acid drug modalities for specific cellular and tissue delivery to advance our innovative preclinical portfolio.You will join our fast-paced, interdisciplinary team as we use novel RNA/oligonucleotide based therapeutic modalities to enhance the Lilly portfolio. The successful applicant will apply their knowledge and technical expertise in oligonucleotide therapeutics and protein structure-function to complement and help drive the discovery and development of RNA-based clinical candidates.   • Design and develop approaches to enable tissue and cell specific delivery of oligonucleotide therapeutics to extrahepatic tissues and cells including neuronal & pancreatic cells, and adipose tissue
  • Provide scientific leadership in the conjugation, purification and characterization of novel siRNA bioconjugates, analysis of structure-activity relationships for optimization of oligonucleotide conjugates
  • Design and develop strategies to improve endosomal escape of complex peptide or antibody-oligonucleotide conjugates and have knowledge in subcellular trafficking
  • Maintain an awareness of key opportunities in the external landscape
  • Maintain a high scientific profile for the group by encouraging involvement in scientific exchange, publications and presentations
  • Manage, coach, and develop scientists and research associates and actively participate in hiring and retaining critical talentBasic qualifications:
    • PhD in Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or related field and a minimum of 4 years of relavent experience; drug discovery experience preferred.Additional skills and experience:
      • Strong experience in biochemistry with excellent track record of problem-solving protein engineering challenges, expertise in conjugation strategies for tissue and cell selective delivery of oligonucleotide therapeutics is preferred.
      • Strong scientific and analytical skills of complex siRNA conjugates and familiarity with CD, SPR, DLS, and HPLC
      • Demonstrated ability to multitask efficiently, prioritize quickly and bring projects to conclusion. Experience working in a matrixed environment as well as leading and using the cross-functional network, and strong project management skills required
      • Have a track record of leadership of scientific rigor and excellence
      • Excellent oral and written skills
      • Highly creative and have a record of accomplishment; a teammate, flexible and ready to overcome a variety of scientific challenges
      • Demonstrated knowledge of Pharmaceutical Discovery, Development and Intellectual Property Processes preferred
      • Passion for RNA/oligonucleotide therapeutic discovery and development
