- OrthoIndy Hospital Northwest, located in Indianapolis,
Indiana,provides -outpatient care and inpatient care, with 10
operating rooms and a42-bed inpatient unit for patients undergoing
more invasive procedures, such asdisc replacement, spinal fusion or
total hip and knee jointreplacement. Other services include an
urgent care, clinics, pre-opclinic, imaging and physical therapy. -
General Statement of Duties: - The Sterile Processing Manager
organizes and directs the work of the SPD unit and programs under
the supervision of the Director of Perioperative Services. The
Sterile Processing Manager is responsible for the coordination of
education, daily activities and personnel involved with
decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, reprocessing, and
sterilization of instrumentation and assembly of case carts for the
operating room. This position ensures the department is meeting all
regulatory requirements for the unit and monitors quality and
processes within the department. The Sterile Processing Manager
maintains an efficient and effective working environment, while
adhering to established departmental quality and safety practices.
- The Sterile Processing Manager promotes and facilitates
surgical processes, improves efficiencies, develops growth of
revenue and cost-effectiveness along with decreasing variability
across all subspecialties across the organization.
- Ensures the daily function of the department, by being visible
to the department, monitoring workflows and managing on-going
activities. Maintains department productivity by monitoring
utilization of all resources within the department.
- Quality Assurance - Systematically evaluates the quality and
effectiveness of SPD practice through out the organization,
analyzing appropriate internal and external data and information to
identify opportunities in collaboration with department's
healthcare personnel for improving services and patient
outcomes.
- Promotes, monitors, and models customer service expectations.
Assists staff in developing techniques for delivering exceptional
customer service to external and internal customers. Conducts
service recovery customers as needed. Assists staff in problem
resolution and/or identifying appropriate source of referral.
Establishes, maintains, and promotes effective relationships
between staff, physicians, and extenders.
- Ensures proper operation of all SPD equipment; i.e. instrument
tracking system, autoclave units prior to use including proper
operation of biological and chemical tests, etc. Ensures that all
equipment is functional and end user maintenance is complete and
documented.
- Oversees and is knowledgeable to perform tray assemblage,
proper packing, and preparation of all applicable supplies from
sterilization. Applies and oversees that aseptic techniques are in
daily work assignments and general cleaning of department service
areas, racks, shelves, storage cabinets, and all other storage
areas. Ensures availability and operation of necessary equipment
and supplies for patient care.
- Coordinates hiring for department and orientation of new
employees. Participates in annual and on-going training education
and development activities to improve knowledge and skills.
Assesses on-going educational needs of individuals and the
department. Aids in developing educational programs designed to
assist staff from novice to expert. Aids in the development and
review of policies and procedures that support infection control
best practice across the organization.
- Acts as liaison between Materials Coordinator, Sales
Representatives and Surgeons for instrument on-boarding and new
technology related issues. Manages instrument maintenance and
repair. Manage vendor tray processes to ensure organizational needs
are met.
- Completes performance reviews and goal development for
department members.
- Maintains and promotes regulatory compliance with AAMI
standards, State Board of Health and HFAP regulations. Retrieves,
analyzes and prepares data reports as needed for Quality Assurance
and Risk Management and others as directed. Participates in
designated committees that reflect the practice of the entire
organization.
- Oversees and assists in maintaining surgeon preference
cards.
- Assists in determining capital and departmental budgetary
requirements. Develops appropriate business plans and workflow
processes. Requirements:
- Associate's degree in related field required; Bachelor's Degree
in related field preferred or relevant years of SPD-related
experience in lieu of Bachelor's degree.
- CRCST certification required. -
- Registered Nurse license preferred.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) license preferred.
