Job Summary

Department Specific Responsibilities:
Performs routine and specialized laboratory procedures in a clinical molecular diagnostic testing laboratory.
Prepares samples for testing and analysis (DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, NGS library preparation, sequencing (NGS and Sanger), primer design).
Performs data analysis and interpretation: including evaluate NGS data, variant calling, variant analysis, and determination of variant nomenclature.
General Responsibilities:
Prepares cells for testing and analysis (specimen set up, culture and harvest).
Performs microscopic and computerized image analysis and interpretation; including karyotype preparation and determination of cytogenetic nomenclature.
Troubleshoots, reviews, and improves laboratory procedures, quality control, and quality assurance monitoring.
Performs activities related to the basic maintenance and operation of the laboratory including creation of lab reagents, monitoring of laboratory supplies, and participation in quality control/quality assurance activities.
Assigns tasks or coordinates task assignments to ensure adequate performance of laboratory activities.
Maintains documentation and reporting information.
Attends continuing education programs that address laboratory issues.



Bachelor's degree in a related science field with coursework in genetics

2 years of cytogenetic experience or clinical laboratory experience

Proficient communication skills
Maintains a high degree of professionalism
Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills
Demonstrates a high commitment to quality
Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment
Highly thorough and dependable
Possesses a high degree of initiative

Working Conditions / Demands

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
