As our Director of Health and Safety, you will provide leadership in risk assessment, risk mitigation, and incident response in support of study abroad students and programs in locations around the world. You will take the lead in developing, implementing, and overseeing standards, procedures, and practices that ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of all our students. In this role, you will play a key role in helping us to deliver on our commitment to inclusive excellence by helping to ensure that our programs are as accessible and inclusive as possible. - In this position, your responsibilities would include:
      • Leading a team of three Regional Managers who work to support and ensure the health and safety of our students.
      • Developing, maintaining and continuously improving the key systems, policies, and procedures that facilitate and support risk assessment, risk mitigation, and incident response.
      • Holding primary responsibility for emergency and crisis preparation and response, sharing emergency phone coverage responsibilities and serving as liaison with sending schools and parents as relevant or required.
      • Providing training and oversight for all IFSA staff in relation to health and safety systems, policies, and procedures.
      • Leading risk monitoring, intelligence gathering, and reporting activities for world events that may impact IFSA programs.
      • Ensuring effectiveness and consistency in the delivery of health and safety information to program applicants and participants.
      • Helping to devise and deliver external communications plans and content to ensure that sending schools and other stakeholders are apprised of key policies, incidents, and developments related to health and safety.
      • Providing training on and ensuring compliance with all relevant legal statutes - including FERPA, HIPAA, ADA, Title IX, the Clery Act, and others - as they relate to IFSA and IFSA programs.
      • Helping to bridge cultural differences between international and U.S. perspectives on issues such as liability, student behavior, and mental health issues.
      • Additional responsibilities as assigned. Requirements, Work Experience and Education
        • Master's Degree; at least 5 years of health, safety, and/or crisis management in an international context
        • 7 to 10 years of professional experience in complex organizations and/or educational institutions, preferably in the field of international education
        • Significant time studying, working or volunteering abroad
        • Experience managing international crises and/or difficult student incidents abroad
        • Demonstrated record of sound judgement and decision-making skills in emergency situations with discretion to sensitive topics; -
        • Understanding of medical/mental health issues in the undergraduate university population, and knowledge of U.S. laws and how they apply to study abroad, such as the Clery Act, VAWA, Title IX, FERPA and travel insurance provision -
        • Strong intercultural communication skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse communities and stakeholders, presenting information in a concise, effective way
        • Superb attention to detail, adept at prioritizing , multi-tasking and responding to changing circumstances; Proactive and results-oriented
        • Proficiency with information technology tools including Salesforce, Microsoft Office suite, and social media platforms
        • Proficiency in a language(s) in addition to English, preferred

          • Occasional travel required, both domestic and international depending on location
