Job Description:
Overview
Our client is looking for a Medical Assistant -to work in downtown
Indianapolis. -The Medical Assistant will be responsible for
arranging and maintaining the care of our clients during their
visits with their prescribing physician.
Pay Rate: $17.00 per hour
Shift: - Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Responsibilities
Coordinate with clinical and support staff to ensure daily schedule
of clients and providers:
- Coordination of care with Nurse Practitioners and
Physician
- Ensure each client is scheduled to be seen every 7
days.
- Collaborate with the Nurse Practitioner/Physician to manage the
client schedule.
- Attend relevant daily/weekly huddles/staffing/meetings that
relate to client care.
Coordination of care with external providers: -
- Obtain any/all Releases and Consents required for coordination
of care with external providers.
- Secure any/all relevant medical records requested by the Nurse
Practitioner/Physician.
- Coordinate with clients and external providers to schedule
follow-up appointments.
- Provide follow up communication to the clinical team members
regarding the status and results of external appointments.
- Ensure the logistics of external medical appointments. Specific
tasks include scheduling appointments, placing appointment passes
within the electronic medical record system and reminding clients
of any upcoming external appointments.
- Coordinate laboratory tests as ordered.
- Communicate/distribute the results of laboratory tests to the
Nurse Practitioner/Physician and place the results in the
electronic medical record.
- Immediately alert the Nurse Practitioner/Physician of any
critical laboratory results.
- Build and maintain a local database containing relevant
potential medical, MAT, dental, and medical specialty referral
options.
- May be responsible for daily pick up of medications.
- Communicate with the Clinical and Floor staff regarding which
medications have already been picked up and which still require
pick up.
- Alert Nurse Practitioner/Physician and Director immediately if
a medication called into pharmacy is declined by insurance or has a
co-pay.
- Complete a weekly medication audit. If discrepancies are found
within the audit, communicate these discrepancies with the VOA
Nurse Practitioner/Physician and site Director.
- Transportation
- May assist with client transportation and program needs in
residential units on non-physician days.
Patient Care
New patient visits:
- Take patient vitals (blood pressure, heart rate, temperature),
and record them in the electronic medical record progress
note.
- If needed, enact standing orders for comfort medications as an
agent of the VOA Nurse Practitioner/Physician.
- Locate and escort the client to the new patient visit.
- Administer injections as ordered.
Ongoing patient visits:
- Take patient vitals (blood pressure, heart rate, temperature),
and record the result in the electronic medical record progress
note.
- Summarize any outstanding laboratory results for the Nurse
Practitioner/Physician in the electronic medical record progress
note.
- Sit in on medical appointments.
- Provide daily updates/concerns etc. discussed during medical
appointments to other members of the clinical and operational
team.
- Locate and escort the client to the ongoing patient
visit.
- Complete prior authorization requests for medications.
Drug Screening:
- Administer and observe drug screens.
- Prepare drug screens to be sent to lab, coordinate with drug
screen lab, and record drug screen results in the electronic
medical record progress note.
- Ensure all clients are electronically entered into any
lab/system that provides confirmation of urine drug screens.

- Newly admitted clients should be placed into the
lab/confirmation system within 1 day of arrival.
- Utilize the randomization system provided by the lab to select
client urine drug screens to be sent to the lab for further
testing.
- Send off urine drug screens that show the presence of a
substance for confirmation.
Pregnancy Tests:
- Administer Pregnancy Tests as requested and record pregnancy
screen results in electronic medical record progress note.
Pharmacy:
- Coordinate with are pharmacies to secure client
medications.
- Fax or call in prescriptions when needed.
- Link cline to medication and medical resources.
Qualifications
Medical Assistant Qualifications:
- Medical Assistant Certification is required
- High School Diploma is required
- 1 year experience working in human services preferred
- A valid driver's license is required
- First Aid and Adult CPR certification is required
