Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,222.00 but
may be commensurate with education or work experience.
Header
The purpose of this position is to support the Maternal and Child
Health (MCH) Division by assisting in the review and quality
improvement of state-level data for the Indiana's Collaborative of
the Alliance of Innovations for Maternal Health (AIM). This
position reports directly to the Maternal and Child Health Clinical
Division Director. This position will support the federal and state
responsibilities related to the reduction of maternal morbidity and
mortality and infant morbidity and mortality to improve the quality
and data oversight of delivering hospitals in Indiana. Areas of
focus include maternal health, morbidity, and mortality, continuous
quality improvement, data submission and analysis, regional
planning, and evaluation. This position will help to identify and
launch quality improvement projects with delivering hospitals and
community partners. The implementation team will leverage the
extensive networks of each of the partners including all delivery
hospitals at all levels of care (including level 0).
About the Job:
As the Chief Nurse Consultant, you will be responsible for
providing professional nursing service consultation. In this
position, you will
provide both general consultation as well as consultation in a
special clinical area statewide or within an assigned geographic
area to program and division directors at an agency and to local
and community nurses and medical personnel for the purpose of
promoting and improving community nursing services.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Coordinate community health care programs which involves working
with health departments, schools, clinics, public and private
childcare facilities, abused or neglected children, home health
agencies and rural health care services.
Work with community physicians and health care professionals to
establish improved reporting and communication between the medical
provider community and the state agency staff.
Coordinate other programs such as school health, migrant health,
health promotion and disease prevention programs for children and
adults.
Work in collaboration with other health and social service
providers to facilitate the delivery of health and development
services.
Review medical records and provides professional medical opinions
and recommendations.
Visit patients to assess the medical needs, monitor for signs of
distress and develop recommendations on how to address any
identified needs or concerns.
Follow up on clients and patients to ensure recommendations are
followed and medical needs are addressed.
Act as a liaison between state agency and community partners to
facilitate communication/ collaboration and ensure health and
medical needs are being addressed.
Assist in developing diagnostic and treatment plans for
clients/patients.
May provide consultation on communicable disease control and
screenings.
Arrange and conduct in-service and/or continuing education
programs.

What You'll Need for Success:
You must meet the following requirement to be considered for
employment:
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license with the state of Indiana.
Extensive knowledge of nursing practices and consultant role in a
specialized program area.
Advanced knowledge of current developments in public health and in
a special clinical area.
Extensive knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations
related to specialized program areas.
Working knowledge of the operation of the different agencies
receiving consultation such as public schools, community and
governmental organizations and a variety of health agencies.
Working knowledge of diseases and conditions which adversely affect
health.
Working knowledge of state and federal departments and agencies
which have programs or services affecting health and welfare of
citizens.
Extensive knowledge of record keeping, budgeting, problem
identification methods, program planning, consultation methods and
research methods
Ability to present health care awareness and prevention programs to
various community agencies.
Ability to prepare accurate, detailed reports, as well as excellent
oral and written communication skills.
Ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships
with agency staff, the medical community, various governmental
agencies, and family members.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff
members.
