ABOUT THE ROLE
Under general supervision, calibrate, maintain, and perform repairs
for scientific instrumentation including proprietary LC systems,
Gas chromatographs, spectrophotometers, and various other lab
instrumentation.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Disassemble, inspect, clean, repair, calibrate, test, and perform
periodic maintenance of specialty equipment such as HPLCs/UPLCs,
specialty equipment, systems, and controls
- Operate electronic test equipment, including multimeters,
frequency generators and counters, galvanometers, digital logic
probes, and oscilloscopes.
- Perform complex repairs or coordinate the removal of
instruments/devices needing overhaul during scheduled
maintenance.
- Record and report abnormal functions or out-of-tolerance
conditions of equipment and initiate corrective action and
documentation.
- Reinstall, test, evaluate, calibrate, and maintain instruments or
devices upon completion of repairs.
- Locate part sources, estimate costs, and prepare
requisitions.
- Document daily records of inspections, maintenance activity,
repairs, and other work performed within approved guidelines and
procedures.
- Coordinate with outside contractors regarding repairs covered by
maintenance agreements. Communicates with customer staff and
outside contractors in the calibration, repair, and operation of
equipment, as necessary.
- May troubleshoot/service or resolve problems while performing
unscheduled work.
- Write equipment, maintenance, and calibration procedures.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge,

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required and
a minimum of four years of related experience and/or training.
Associates degree in scientific field of study preferred or
equivalent related work experience.
One to Five years of experience in instrumentation and control or
installing, calibrating, maintaining and repairing equipment or
equivalent experience is preferred.
Specialist knowledge, training, and experience related to
analytical instrumentation to include selected technique groups
such as HPLC, GC, Liquid Handling, Automation, Optical Systems,
Biology and Chemistry Analyzers is preferred.
Specific experience preferred:
Must have appropriate license or certification where required by
law.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong
organizational and analytical skills. Ability to provide efficient,
timely, reliable and courteous service to customers. Ability to
effectively present information.
Requires knowledge of financial terms and principles. Ability to
calculate intermediate figures such as percentages, discounts,
and/or commissions. Conducts basic financial analysis.
Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret documents. Ability to
solve problems involving several options in situations. Requires
intermediate analytical and quantitative skills.
Experience with Desktop publishing, Microsoft Office Suite, and
Online Help.
Ability to read and work from blueprints, schematic diagrams and
specification manuals.
Decisions made with thorough knowledge of procedures and company
policies to achieve set results and targets. Responsible for
setting own project targets. Errors in judgment may cause
short-term impact to co-workers and supervisor.
