Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Supports the activities of the AVL group related to operations
of object digitization, advanced media displays, and advanced
visualization workflows. Leads problem management and escalations,
upgrades and maintenance related to AVL services and supporting
infrastructure. Leads efforts in advancing AVL service
applicability.
- Provides consulting services and maintenance of advanced
display systems, including IQ-Walls and Reality Stations deployed
across multiple campuses. Responsible for management and upkeep of
the RT NEXT Lab. Provides assistance with IQ-Walls and Reality
Stations at IU Regional campuses.
- Provides service and technology oversight for 3D object
digitizing systems, including object- and person-scale Ortery
photography systems, structured light scanners (GoScan), and 3DMD
facial scanners (in use at IUSM).
- Serves as liaison between UITS, RT, and AVL and researchers and
educators in key departments, including IU Schools of Medicine,
Dentistry, and Nursing, School of Informatics, Media Arts and
Sciences, Media School, Herron School of Art, and Eskenazi School
of Art, Architecture, and Design. Provides direct consultation and
support when appropriate, or facilitates connections with other RT
or UITS units as necessary.
- Serves as liaison with other UITS and IU technology support
units, including UITS Learning Technologies, Regional Campus IT,
Herron School IT (Think It Make It lab), Eskenazi School MAD Lab,
and IUSM Nexus Lab.
- Serves as liaison with key technology vendors for visualization
software and hardware, including Ortery, GoScan, Sketchfab, Unity,
and Intuiface.
- Monitors hardware/software usage, provides statistics, produces
reports, and makes recommendations for strategies. Participates in
the evaluation and technical assessment of software to ensure that
IU keeps pace with emerging technologies as it pertains to 3D
digitization, analysis, and presentation systems.
- Working virtually independently, provides high-level expert
technical expertise and performs highly complex system development
tasks, including systems analysis and programming related to the
design, development, implementation and support of workflows for
acquiring, processing, presenting, and preserving 3D scans of
objects.
- Oversees systems administration including installation of
hardware and applications, performance tuning, and system
maintenance. Coordinates deployment and provides integration and
testing; ensures tight system security; prepare system services,
project and service documentation.
- Represents AVL, RT, UITS, and IU at local, regional, and
national levels as assigned. Attends conferences and makes
presentations on AVL supported research, applications, and
workflows. Writes text for RT publications and grants and delivers
training. Supports research and vendor partnerships as assigned.
General Responsibilities
- Provides experienced analysis and programming related to the
design, development, and support of systems.
- Consults with stakeholder(s) to define system requirements,
problems, and proposals; conducts detailed studies, presents
detailed requirements/designs to the stakeholder(s), and obtains
agreement and approval for proposed updates/changes.
- Prepares conversion and systems implementation plans and
schedules; translates system design to detailed program
specifications.
- Documents systems analysis and programming efforts (changes,
new functionality, issue/problem resolution); performs system unit
and integration testing and presents final test results to
stakeholder(s) and/or leadership.
- Researches and stays up to date with new standards, tools, and
emerging technology and services and makes recommendations for
possible short-term, mid-term or long-term integration.
- Ensures that all protocols used in the design and programming
of systems are up to date and compliant with university policies
and standards. Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degreePreferred
- Degree in computer science or related fieldWORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 2 years of systems programming/analysis, technical design, or
related experience Preferred
- Experience working with advanced visual technologies, including
any of: 3D modeling and analysis, 3D visualization, 3D programming,
or 3D digitization, or 3D output highly desiredCombinations of
related education and experience may be considered

Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to
operate a computer and other standard office productivity
equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods
of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The
person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions
with or without an accommodation.
Position requires mental concentration, attention to detail, and
excellent organizational skills to balance competing demands and
priorities in a fast-moving, collegial environment.
The role is required to maintain and interact with computers and
frequently move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. This position
requires occasional project work on select weekends. There is also
a need for occasional travel with the possibility of overnight
stay(s).
