Overview Lilly recently announced a $4.5 billion investment to
create the Lilly Medicine Foundry, a new center for advanced
manufacturing and drug development. The first-ever facility of its
kind, combining research and manufacturing in a single location,
the Medicine Foundry will allow Lilly to further develop innovative
solutions to optimize manufacturing processes and increase capacity
for clinical trial medicines, while also reducing costs and
environmental impact. The cleaning engineer will assist operations
in the planning, executing, and the continuous improvement of
cleaning in the kilo lab and production areas of the Lilly Medicine
Foundry. Initial focus will be to provide guidance to the design of
the plant and participate in operational readiness to support
production beginning in late 2027. Responsibilities: Plant
Design/Operational Readiness Provide cleaning guidance to support
detailed design of Foundry production buildings/equipment selection
Lead the design/development of the Foundry’s Cleaning strategy and
the program implementation Have a comprehensive understanding of
the cleaning validation process Create Standardized Cleaning
documentation Support the development and ongoing execution of a
cleaning training program / education for process teams. Provide
support to other Foundry operational readiness workstreams, such as
Operations, Quality, Engineering. Production Support Promote strong
Health, Safety and Environmental culture principles into the Lilly
Medicine Foundry cleaning processes, including but not limited to:
Ensure that the cleaning processes and instructions can be
performed following appropriate HSE requirements Leading /
participating in safety audits, Process Hazard Reviews,
On-the-Floor audits, etc., related to the equipment cleaning
process Encouraging the use of safety tools / safety observations/
safety conversations, etc. Collaborate with Site Quality to ensure
compliance with cGMP/cGLP Quality equipment cleaning requirements
including, but not limited to: Maintain up to date knowledge of
current equipment cleaning requirements Update, review, and/or
approve cleaning related SOPs, instructions, and other related
documentation Review and approve all change controls for cleaning
program improvements Responsible for the delivery of the production
cleaning, including but not limited to: Support Operations Process
Team in planning and scheduling daily work during the cleaning
process, monitor the cleaning schedule, and facilitate any
remediation activities as needed to maintain compliant and on time
cleaning processes. Support the Maintenance Planner by scheduling
PMs and work orders into the cleaning/turnaround schedule Ensure
all equipment and consumables are readily available well in advance
of clean-ups Create non-routine work instructions (attachments to
Tickets, non-routine work instructions, etc.) with input from the
Operations Process Team Manage completion of non-routine sampling
during cleaning Facilitate formal problem-solving techniques,
including root cause analysis, to resolve equipment issues as well
as event/deviation investigations during cleaning Generate cleaning
campaign summaries Lead continuous improvement of the site cleaning
program Own cleaning process metrics (cycle time, down time, etc)
Participate in or lead After Action Reviews for Clean-ups Drive
medium to long-term improvements in the cleaning program based on
external benchmarking / industry trends. Improve efficiency on
cleaning processes and identify projects for improvements Basic
Requirements: Bachelor of Science in sciences or engineering field
(advanced degree preferred) 10 years of experience in a cGMP
large-scale pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. Technical
knowledge of cleaning equipment and cleaning regimes. Knowledge of
relevant FDA and EU regulations relating to equipment cleaning in
small molecule manufacturing. Additional Preferences Knowledge of
Small Molecule and/or peptide/oligonucleotide manufacturing
processes and understanding of production schedules Ability to
respond quickly and proactively to changing priorities within a
limited timeline Strong process safety knowledge, understanding of
the basis of safety and risk assessments with an ability to react
appropriately. Flexible, Continuous Improvement mindset i.e.,
always looking for a better, more efficient way Strong
collaborative skills with an ability to work effectively in a cross
functional team environment (internal and external) Demonstrated
good planning and organizational skills, ability to prioritize
tasks, commitment to task completion, and timelines. Demonstrated
proficiency and interest for problem-solving/ troubleshooting and
an ability to deal with unexpected issues in a constructive
(proactive) and collaborative way Excellent communication skills,
both oral and written. Demonstrated leadership skills. Other
Information: Initial location at Lilly Technology Center,
Indianapolis. Permanent location at the new Lilly Medicines Foundry
in Lebanon, Indiana. Limited domestic and international travel (

on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic
location. The anticipated wage for this position is $123,750 -
$198,000 Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a
company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual
