We're searching for an attorney with litigation experience to
work within a corporate national governing body. This is a great
opportunity for someone who is looking for a pathway to a Lead
Attorney, Chief Legal Officer, and/or General Counsel role. About
the organization: This is with a national sports
organization/national governing body (NGB) based in Indianapolis.
Passion for athletics, law, and safety of athletes from amateur to
Olympic/Paralympic levels. Small team variety: Provide legal
support, advice, litigation, compliance, improve processes, and
procedures. Provide research, presentations, conduct hearings,
draft, review contracts, and responses. Abilities & Traits for
Success: Ability to research- you're intellectually curious, and
you ask "Why?" "Is there a better way?"
Continual improvement- you're always asking what we can automate,
improve, and simplify.
Strong problem-solving, and analytical collaborative skills and
easily pivot across competing priorities.
Communicate well with contacts, including outside counsel,
executive, and senior management.
Love of tech- Advanced Excel functions, data analysis, and document
Global awareness- up on current events and hungry to learn from a
skilled General Counsel.
Impeccable writing skills and can share samples of briefs, filings,
and great attention to detail.
Interest or affiliation with sports and athletics is helpful and
should help in mastering all relevant Olympic and federal laws.
Those protecting young athletes and ensuring safety with safe
sports. Education and Experience Required A law degree - a JD from
an ABA-accredited law school
Good standing member of the Indiana State Bar Association licensed
to practice law in Indiana
Minimum 5 years of legal experience; preference will be given to
individuals with litigation experience, especially involving child
advocacy, family law, or similar trial experience
In-house legal experience with a nonprofit organization is also
ideal but not required
Must pass a background check and complete SafeSport training
Additional information: The position is based in Indianapolis,
Indiana, and works mostly in the office
Salary and benefits commensurate with experience
Travel required less than 10% of the time with weekend work as
