The School is a critical resource for Indiana’s children who are blind or have low vision and the teachers, parents, and caregivers who work with them. Every year, we educate hundreds of children and young adults ranging from 3 to 22 years old and living in all parts of Indiana, many of whom, due to severe or multiple disabilities, other schools in the state have difficulty serving or cannot serve. ISBVI - over 150 years of service! Salary Information:This position normally begins at $28,288.00 annually. About the Job:The Residential Mentor facilitates the care and guidance of students and other youth at a state facility.A Day in the Life:The essential functions of this role are as follows:Supervises students in dormitories, classrooms, lunch rooms and off campus trips under the supervision of the teacher or residential leader.Supervises student housekeeping activities and inspects dorms and living areas for safety and cleanliness.Prepares necessary materials as directed by the teacher and/or supervisor.Assists with activities outside the classroom and/or dormitories.Supports discipline policy of the classroom/residential program, resolves conflicts between students and assists in monitoring behavior plans.Assures that student hygiene, toileting and safety needs are met.Performs a variety of duties providing for the guidance, care, training, development and socialization of hearing and/or visually impaired, physically challenged or developmentally delayed students.Follows emergency procedures for fire, storm, tornado drills and warnings.Promotes the nine dimensions of student development, including cultural, intellectual, life planning, political, spiritual, physical, emotional, sexual and social.Coordinates programs and recreational activities for students and completes and documents programming plans, paperwork, incidents and student progress.The job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee.
