General Description of Position:
Adjunct Faculty positions are temporary, part-time positions hired
each semester on an as-needed basis. The adjunct faculty member
will be responsible for creating a learning environment that
assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing
effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common
syllabi provided by the School. Humanities includes art history,
music appreciation, theatre appreciation, and philosophy.
Major Responsibilities:
PROGRAM OPERATION: Perform all instructional duties necessary to
teach and facilitate student learning in assigned classes. Provide
syllabus appropriate to course(s) being taught to students and
follows syllabus content and requirements. Maintain student
attendance and grading records according to College policy as
outlined in the Adjunct Handbook. Submits requested information
within established timelines. STUDENTS: Is available to students
outside scheduled class time to answer questions/provide
assistance. Deal with student concerns and, if necessary, consult
with program coordinator to resolve issues. INSTRUCTION: Meet all
scheduled classes of contracted course(s). Use technology such as
Blackboard, PowerPoint, etc. as appropriate. In event of emergency
absence, notifies program/department chair. Conduct all activities
with an appreciation and respect for diversity of people, styles,
and views. Promote same as an integral part of one's work.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must have strong working knowledge of current technologies
appropriate to area of instruction, faculty credentials as outlined
in the ASOM 7.1 as applicable to the specific area of
instruction.
A qualified faculty member in art history is one who has an earned
master's or higher degree, from a regionally accredited
institution, in art or art history, or a master's degree with 18
graduate semester hours in art or art history.
A qualified faculty member in theatre is one who has an earned
master's or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution
in theatre or a master's degree with 18 graduate semester credit
hours in theatre-related courses.
A qualified faculty member in music is one who has an earned
master's or higher degree in music, from a regionally accredited
institution, or a master's degree with 18 graduate semester credit
hours in music.
A qualified faculty member is one who has an earned master's or
higher degree from a regionally accredited institution in a
humanities program or a master's degree with 18 graduate semester
hours in humanities.
A qualified faculty member in philosophy is one who has an earned
master's or higher degree, from a regionally accredited
institution, in philosophy or a master's degree with 18 graduate
semester credit hours in philosophy-related courses.
A qualified faculty member in ethics is one who has a earned
master's or higher degree, from a regionally accredited
institution, in philosophy, or a master's degree with 18 graduate
semester credit hours in philosophy or ethics.
Faculty with extensive graduate credits, but no graduate degree,
can be determined to have met the requirement if the individual is
ABD (All but Dissertation) or has amassed 45 graduate hour credits
in a single program that meets the requirements specific to the
course being taught.
Faculty with a master's degree in secondary education with a
relevant concentration (such as mathematics) can be determined to
have met the requirement if the individual has 12 graduate credits
in the field and 12 undergraduate credits in the field at the 300
and 400 level. This applies to general education courses that are
100 level only.

Selected candidate for employment will be subject to pre-employment
background checks, including criminal history check, and any offer
of employment will be contingent upon that outcome.
In addition to the Lafayette campus, positions may also be
available in Crawfordsville, Frankfort, Monticello, and Morocco.
