ROLE SUMMARY
The Digital ESDE (Enterprise Data Solutions & Engineering) team
partners across Pfizer to drive new capabilities for the reuse of
cross-domain data and information that enables portfolio
decision-making and breakthroughs to change patients' lives.
Our team focuses on a consistent, semantically empowered data
strategy to enable the primary and secondary use of internal and
external data.
Pfizer Digital ESDE is seeking a talented, results-oriented
individual with a passion for knowledge management to contribute to
our digital initiative to ensure accuracy and consistency in our
data.
This individual will play a crucial role in the management and
oversight of Pfizer's data assets to help provide business users
with high-quality data that is easily accessible in a consistent
manner by applying FAIR principles. The person should be an
experienced terminology manager to assist our colleagues with
managing and implementing domain-specific terminologies that
semantically enrich core knowledge models. The candidates possess
practical experience as an Ontologist/Taxonomist and Data
Steward.
This position will collaborate with the ESDE and Business
organization to drive the terminology and data standards strategy
that enables data reuse and the delivery of digital products.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Define and lead a data stewards and owner council
Identify, describe, and analyze gaps in R&D data access,
relationships, lineage, or tools to drive new capabilities and
promote the reuse of cross-domain data and information
Map terminologies across R&D and partner touchpoints across
WRDM (Worldwide Research, Development, and Medical) and GPD (Global
Product Development)
Create a roadmap and support commonly used Ontology and Terminology
tools
Actively manage the existing terminology; create/delete/update
nodes and metadata.
Define and lead a data stewards and owner council
Coordinate with other team members to maintain best practices for
standard naming conventions and coding practices to ensure
consistency and interoperability of data models.
Collaborate with data SME and information owners to ensure data is
managed according to the FAIR Principles and meets current but also
future analytics roadmap requirements
Perform manual cleansing processes where gaps may exist
Coordinate with other team members to maintain best practices for

Work closely with the subject matter experts to define data
elements and to determine which taxonomy terms are appropriate
candidates consistent with corporate knowledge representation and
resolve taxonomy and classification issues in creative and
intelligent ways
Identify and implement improvements to taxonomy change management
processes and internal/external communications
Maintain a detailed inventory of the existing Research &
Development terminologies
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors' degree in a life-science related field, Information
science, library science or computer science
5+ years' experience with direct experience implementing successful
data standards and terminology solutions in the life science
industry.
2+ years' experience managing a taxonomy, ontology, or controlled
vocabulary.
Knowledge of commonly used Ontology and Terminology tools (e.g.
CENTree, TopBraid, Prot--g--)
Knowledge of Semantic Web technologies (RDF/s, OWL), query
languages (SPARQL) and validation/reasoning standards (SHACL,
SPIN)
Strong analytical skills, including a thorough understanding of how
to interpret business needs
Demonstrated the successful adaptation of data standards in a
previous work experience
Proven ability working in matrixed environment with diverse groups
including digital colleagues, subject matter experts, project
scientists and senior management
Successful implementation of various aspect of the FAIR Principles
at a previous work engagement
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate,
collaborate and influence at all levels within the organization and
across the external ecosystem
Strong stakeholder management skills, considering various frames of
reference and ensuring cross-functional alignment in
decision-making
Strong strategic and communication skills (written and verbal)
Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences
and capabilities including: the ability to influence and
collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide
the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and
create business impact.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Masters Degree in related field
8+ years of total relevant experience including participating and
running governance orgs to manage taxonomy, ontology, vocabulary,
catalogs, glossaries etc.
Knowledge of library and metadata world and processes. Experience
using the SciBite technology suite is a plus
Experience with knowledge graphs such as Neo4J or Stardog
Experience as a Taxonomist and Data Steward.
Experience with managing and troubleshooting a data catalog.
Knowledge specifically in Alation / Collibra is a plus
Knowledge of business processes in one or more of discovery,
research, clinical, regulatory or safety domains
Experience as technology or data project management
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
Occasional work outside business hours to accommodate collaboration
with colleagues in global Pfizer sites.
Up to 10% travel if needed to Global sites for workshops
