Job Objective:
As the Residential Treatment Counselor, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of the individualized treatment plans for each consumer. Responsible for providing case management services as needed for the assigned consumers. Responsible for maintaining a caseload and conducting individual, family and group counseling as noted in the treatment plan. Teach educational classes as needed. The Residential Treatment Counselor is responsible for ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.
What You Will Do:


  • Formulate goals and objectives with the consumer by preparing a written treatment plan.


    • Collaborate with other counselors as needed to ensure continuity of care
    • Prepare and teacher educational classes as assigned
    • Participate in weekly staffing meetings to provide clinical input and observations as appropriate
    • Document on a group note the clinical observations and behaviors of the consumer
    • Complete an action sheet on level of care and assigned primary clinician
    • Prepare progress notes for each consumer and complete the group notes within 24 hours of the initial contact. All individual and family counseling progress notes are to be turned in at the end of the working day of the scheduled session.
    • Attend staff meetings, departmental meetings, seminars/conferences, and in-service meetings and training programs as scheduled
    • Complete monthly Peer Reviews as assigned by the Lead Counselor or designee

      Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.
      Education: Bachelor's degree required in human services or other related field. Master's degree in human services or other related field preferred
      Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed. Findings may disqualify an individual for this position
      Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years direct service in substance abuse field preferred. ICAADA certified preferred. If not ICAADA certified, then must have within 12 months of employment. Must be willing to work at least 1 evening per week and some weekends.
      Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment. (when appropriate add: "must complete Caseworker Certification Program within 120 days of employment")
      Skills/Abilities:

      • Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele
      • Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems
      • Capable of communicating and interacting with people from various backgrounds with compassion, while applying principles of recovery and clinical practice. Proficient computer skills required.

        Travel: Position may be required to attend court hearings or external training opportunities. Transporting consumers may also be required

        Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical office environment; Full-time position; may require some weekend and evening work
